Solar & Battery Energy Storage

Interconnection, switchgear and integration for commercial solar and battery storage systems.

Solar and storage projects are electrical projects with panels attached. The modules and the racking are the visible part; the interconnection, protection, metering and controls determine whether the system performs and whether the utility will energise it.

What we handle

We work as the electrical contractor on commercial solar and storage, either for the developer or directly for the building owner.

  • AC and DC electrical for rooftop, canopy and ground-mount solar
  • Inverter installation, integration and commissioning
  • Battery energy storage interconnection and protection
  • Service, switchgear and distribution modification
  • Utility interconnection coordination and witness testing
  • Production and revenue-grade metering
  • Rapid shutdown and NEC-compliant array safety
  • Automatic transfer and backup power integration

Interconnection is the schedule risk

Panels go up quickly. Utility interconnection approval does not. Application review, protection requirements, metering and witness testing routinely take longer than the physical installation, and beginning that process late is the single most common reason a solar project misses its energisation date.

We start interconnection early and manage it rather than treating it as paperwork that happens near the end.

Where storage earns its cost

Battery storage rarely pays for itself on backup value alone. The economics come from demand charge management — discharging during peak periods so the facility never sets a high demand reading — and from time-of-use arbitrage where the rate structure supports it.

Both depend entirely on your rate schedule, so the business case has to be modelled against your actual tariff rather than a generic payback figure. We will tell you when the numbers do not work.

Power quality is part of the design

Inverters are non-linear loads. A large PV or storage installation changes the harmonic profile of a facility, and on sites already carrying significant drive or UPS load that can push a previously compliant service past IEEE 519 limits.

We assess this during design rather than discovering it during commissioning. See our power quality and harmonics work.

Common questions

Do you install the panels themselves?

We work as the electrical contractor on solar projects — AC and DC electrical, inverters, interconnection, protection and metering. On many projects a specialist handles racking and module setting while we handle everything electrical, which is the normal division of work on commercial installations.

How long does utility interconnection take?

Longer than clients expect, and it varies substantially with system size and utility. It is the dominant schedule risk on most commercial solar projects, which is why we start the application early rather than treating it as a closeout task.

Is battery storage worth it?

It depends almost entirely on your rate structure. Where demand charges are a large share of the bill, peak shaving can produce a strong return. Where they are not, the case is usually weaker and rests more on resilience value. We model it against your actual tariff and tell you honestly which situation you are in.
