Infrared Testing & Preventive Maintenance

Thermographic scanning that finds failing connections and overloaded circuits before they cause downtime.

Electrical connections fail gradually and then suddenly. A termination that loosens develops resistance, resistance develops heat, and heat accelerates the degradation until the connection fails — often taking equipment with it, sometimes starting a fire. Infrared thermography finds that heat months before the failure.

What an infrared survey finds

We scan energized equipment under normal load and identify thermal anomalies against baseline. Findings are classified by severity so you can budget corrections rather than react to them.

  • Loose or corroded terminations at breakers, lugs and disconnects
  • Unbalanced phase loading across three-phase equipment
  • Overloaded conductors and undersized terminations
  • Failing breakers, contactors and fuses

What you receive

A written report with thermal and visible-light imagery for each finding, temperature differentials, severity classification, the equipment and circuit affected, and a recommended corrective action with urgency. The format is one that insurers and risk managers generally accept as documentation of a preventive maintenance program.

How often to scan

Annual scanning is the common baseline for commercial buildings. Facilities with critical loads, heavy cycling, or high-value equipment often scan semi-annually. Facilities that have had a thermal-related failure should scan more frequently until the pattern is understood.

Common questions

Does the building need to shut down for a scan?

No — the opposite. Equipment must be energized and under normal load for the scan to be meaningful. We work around your operations, and there is no outage required.

Will my insurer accept the report?

Our reporting format includes the thermal imagery, temperature differentials, severity classification and corrective recommendations that carriers typically require. Requirements vary, so we recommend confirming your carrier's specific format with them.

What happens if you find something serious?

We tell you immediately rather than waiting for the report. Critical findings — a connection hot enough to pose an imminent failure or fire risk — get flagged on site so you can decide whether to correct it right away.
