The specifications that matter
Color rendering index and color temperature affect how people and product actually look. Retail merchandise, food, skin tones and finish materials all photograph and read differently under different sources — and a chain that specifies inconsistently ends up with locations that feel subtly wrong.
Glare is the other commonly ignored specification. A high-output fixture with poor shielding produces a space that measures fine on a light meter and is unpleasant to occupy.
Controls and energy code
Current Colorado energy code requires specific controls — occupancy sensing, daylight response and automatic shutoff — with documented compliance. Controls are also where lighting projects most often fail inspection, usually because the compliance path was chosen after installation rather than before design.

Can you design lighting for a space you are not installing?
Yes. We provide design-only services including photometric layouts, specifications and controls documentation.
What color temperature should we use?
It depends on the space and what is in it. Warmer sources around 2700–3000K suit hospitality and residential; 3500–4000K is common for retail and office; cooler sources suit industrial and task environments. Consistency across a portfolio usually matters more than the specific number.
