Markets We Serve

Healthcare Facility Electrical

Essential electrical systems, imaging power and infection-control-aware work for clinical space.

Atrium combining daylight and electric lighting

Healthcare electrical work carries requirements that do not exist elsewhere. NFPA 99 governs essential electrical systems, patient care spaces have specific grounding and receptacle requirements, and construction in an operating facility must not compromise infection control.

01

Patient care never stops

Clinical operations continue during construction. We sequence work around patient schedules and maintain power to care areas throughout.

02

Infection control governs the work

We work within ICRA requirements — containment, negative pressure, and controlled routes for material and debris.

03

Imaging equipment is unforgiving

Imaging and diagnostic equipment has strict power quality and grounding requirements. We coordinate directly with equipment vendors during design.

Capabilities

What we deliver in healthcare

  • Essential electrical systems and branch separation
  • Patient care area wiring, grounding and receptacles
  • Imaging and diagnostic equipment power
  • Generator and automatic transfer switching
  • Nurse call and low-voltage infrastructure
  • Medical office and clinic build-outs
  • Clinical lighting and controls
  • Infrared scanning and preventive maintenance

Essential electrical systems

Healthcare electrical design is governed by requirements that do not exist in ordinary commercial work. NFPA 99 defines the essential electrical system and its separation into branches, and the distinction between them is not administrative — it determines what has to transfer to emergency power and how fast.

  • Life safety branch — egress lighting, exit signs, alarm and communication systems
  • Critical branch — patient care areas, task lighting, selected receptacles
  • Equipment branch — HVAC, medical gas, sterilisers and support systems
  • Transfer timing verified against requirement, not assumed
  • Generator load bank and functional testing with documentation

Patient care spaces have their own wiring rules

Patient care vicinities carry specific requirements for grounding, redundant ground paths and receptacle types that ordinary commercial spaces do not. Hospital-grade receptacles are not a marketing designation — they are a listed product with defined retention and grounding performance, and substituting standard commercial devices is a code violation as well as a safety one.

Equipotential grounding, isolated power systems where required, and documented testing of the ground path are all part of the work rather than optional extras.

Imaging equipment and power quality

MRI, CT and other imaging equipment carries strict requirements for power quality, dedicated circuits and grounding. Manufacturers publish tolerances for voltage distortion and transients that are tighter than general commercial practice, and imaging artefacts traced back to power quality are an expensive and slow diagnosis.

We coordinate directly with the equipment vendor during design and, where the facility carries significant drive or UPS load, measure the harmonic environment before commissioning rather than after.

Working under infection control

Construction in an operating healthcare facility runs under an Infection Control Risk Assessment. That means containment, negative pressure where required, HEPA filtration, controlled routes for material and debris, and sequencing around patient care rather than around our convenience. Crews working in clinical areas are briefed on it before they arrive.

Common questions

Can power quality affect imaging equipment?

Yes, and it is an expensive problem to diagnose from the imaging side. Manufacturers publish voltage distortion and transient tolerances that are tighter than general commercial practice. Where a facility carries significant drive or UPS load, we measure the harmonic environment before commissioning rather than after an artefact appears.

Do you work in occupied clinical space?

Yes. We work within ICRA infection control requirements, sequence around patient care schedules, and maintain power to clinical areas throughout construction.

Do you handle imaging equipment power?

Yes. We coordinate with the equipment vendor during design to meet the manufacturer's power quality, grounding and dedicated circuit requirements.
